Composer Elton John and lyricist Jay Rifkin have written songs for the Lion King theatrical production. The show takes place in a fictional Pride Lands of Africa. Young lion Simba is the son of King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi. Simba's younger brother Scar plots to kill him when he realizes that he will not be the heir of his father's throne. Simba is taught about the delicate balance of Circle of Life that affects all living things by Mufasa. Scar first lures Simba into an elephant graveyard and then to a gorge to kill him. He fails in his both attempts to kill Simba. He then kills Musafa. When Simba corners Scar for his misadventures, he blames everything on hyenas. The now resentful hyenas surround their traitorous fallen leader and devour him into bush fire. When the fire is extinguished by a downpour, Simba reaches the top of Pride Rock and looks down at the shining stars. Simba and his wife Nala are the new king and queen of Pride Land, which again becomes green with life.
Theatrical version of the Lion King show is filled with spectacular visual feast. The show features a cast of over 40 actors, dancers and singers. The Lion King theater show has been directed by Julie Taymor and authored by Rogers Allers & Irene Mecchi.
